“THE hOUSE THAT BUILT ME” by Anna Guyton

BFA GRAPHIC DESIGN

I have known that I wanted to pursue a career in graphic design since I was 12 years old, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year at JSU that I discovered my love for illustration. I began to focus on this and took courses that would allow me to refine my skills. This led me to what I created for my senior show. This body of work titled “The House That Built Me” was created to show how and where I grew up. My dad retired as a colonel in the US Army after 26 years of service – this meant that my family and I moved around a lot during my childhood. We lived in 5 states before moving to Alabama, and we have been here for 14 years.

My show features illustrations of each home that I’ve lived in, including the one I currently live in with my husband. I’ve also done a self-portrait illustration and a family portrait illustration. Accompanying this are a few more decorative elements, including a key display, an illustrated pattern tablecloth, and some business cards and stickers.

I would like to thank my professors, classmates, coworkers, and especially my family and friends for their support over the years. Without these relationships, I would not be the artist that I am today!
