“The Secret Ingredient” by Mary Grace Porter
Over the course of our lives we will experience countless memories that connect us to stories and people from our past.
A common vessel for these stories are the recipes we make and hold close in our kitchen. Whether that was Sunday lunch at your grandmothers or your favorite dish your mom made you for your birthday every year.
In this book I explored the connection between recipes and relationships. Each recipe in this book was contributed by a friend or family member. Along with the ingredients and instructions of the recipe, they also shared a story the recipe reminded them of and why that specific dish was important to them. These recipes and stories were organized in a single cookbook, The Secret Ingredient.
We often debate what the secret ingredient is in an old family recipe that makes it taste so good, but really the secret ingredient is the relationships we have with those we share the memories, stories and recipes.
